The core values of nursing is responsibility & stewardship.

Complain to Singapore Nursing Board.
Apart from spot checks, I am whistle-blowing as part of the service industry's strategy to flush out errant services.

The core values of nursing is responsibility & stewardship.
I am known to suffer from bipolar disorder. It has to be make sure that I am not discriminated against on the basis of my medical condition. Any such discrimination is prohibited by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Singapore has decided to ratify.
I also ask the nurses of Ward 34A, B to be sensitive to it's own patients, in the light of my medical condition.

I hope that this case - the first instance of a mental health institution charged under the Hospitals and Medical Institutions Act - would be the last. Drastic action should be taken for failing to ensure that the care provided to me, a 21-year-old patient, met approved standards of nursing practice.

It gets more disgusting when these nurses walk around with the words IMH printed at their backs. I disagree with the new introduction of that uniform to all nursing staff. Previously only doctors/MOs would wear that uniform. Now, I can't even distinguish who is doctor and who is the nurse, when they walk around in IMH, in and out.

Duties of a Nurse:

Nurse Manager: Provide effective, efficient and quality patient-centric care. Work independently in managing complex cases and be professional accredited.
Nurse Clinician: Promote quality patient care at different levels. Maintain a high level of service for patients and ensure continuous improvement in work processes in the inpatient setting.
Staff Nurse: Provide professional nursing care and educate patients and their families. Ensure a high standard of clinical practice and conduct, and participate actively in pursuing continual professional development.
Assistant Nurse: Administer personalised and quality patient-centric care.

--> You have to look for individuals with a passion for service excellence to be part of the team.

MOH and the Singapore Medical Council really need to relook and audit IMH nursing and doctor-services to ensure that it lines up to it's professional and ethical accountability to the medical community and the public.

Any punishment or action imposed must be substantial enough to reinforce the message and should not be just a mere slap on the wrist under the Hospital and Medical Institutions Act.

I would like the prosecution to agree with me that there is a need to send a strong message to service provider institutions like IMH that the law will have zero tolerance if mental patients in their care are treated inappropriately. This includes verbal and non-verbal actions. And physical or non-physical abuses. And that the welfare of these patients, including their dignity, must be upheld at ALL times.

This is a letter of demand. To the nurses in IMH, it's doctors and allied healthcare workers, that including case managers. Charging that their recent conduct amounted to act of negligence and abuse and I demand that they compensate me. That includes a compensation from IMH itself and that they issue a public apology.
