I just spoke to Joanne (Lim Wan Ting) of IMH 34A just now on the phone. She wasn't supposed or able to call or friends are not supposed to talk to her on the phone because her parents don't allow it. I was thinking, what if this happens to me. It would be like hell to me! See, Joanne was sent there because of her parents, and definitely, her parents won't come and see her because of the quarrel, the very reason she was sent there. And if she can't even call her friends and friends can't talk to her as "instructed by her parents", it would add on to her pain! In the first place, our parents, have NO RIGHT to dictate WHO we call or who can VISIT us in the ward. They have done enough damage to us already by placing us in the hell hole and our friends who are beloved can't even meet or talk to us? It's Berserk! The hospital should shield and protect us from such dictatement of unreasonable parents' instruction. We should have FREEDOM of CHOICE in the ward because it is FREEWILL and honor. We don't wanna live in a world of such "even if it means reasonable actions to them" restrictions! Is there a reason why we go crazy? It is aptly because of these!
2. She said she got tied up just now because she was angry. She was angry that she wanted to call people in the morning and she wasn't allowed. Why do you have lousy services like only one phonecall per day? You should arrange something that we can call even in the morning or anytime during the day! Go for excellent service!
3. So she was tied up because she was angry she can't make a phonecall in the morning and got injected with Haloperidol? Why, again, tied patients up? I don't see they counsel them and coax them or let them have the leeway. They are angry because they can't have the luxury of phonecalls in the morning yes!
So 1. our parents, have NO RIGHT to dictate WHO we call or who can VISIT us in the ward
2. You should arrange something that we can call even in the morning or anytime during the day.
3. I don't see they counsel patients and coax them or let them have the leeway. No doubt I agree safety is important, but nevertheless!
4. Also, I have heard from Joanne the food in the ward is still the same! FOUR months since I come out, and there has been no change in the food? Please! I think services can be better then this!
5. Lastly, Joanne has been banned all foods except given porridge everyday to her. Why? Is this suppose to even happen? We can eat whatever we like, mental hospitals have to focus on mental issues no doubt they have to take care of some physical aspects, but just letting patients eat porridge everyday? No... I think IMH should have some common sense. Porridge eating won't translate to much energy for a growing youth and for your tastebuds too!
Please address these issues and I want to see an immediate change!
Love, GT Morris
